Dogs Welcome at The French Market in Knoxville!

At the end of 2009, the Knoxville City council approved an ordinance to allow dogs on patios of restaurants in Knoxville!  This is a huge step for making Knoxville the Most Pet Friendly Community!  What?  You didn’t know that Knoxville, TN is going to be the Most Pet Friendly Community in the USA?  YES WE ARE!  Check out www.petfriendliestcommunity.com for more information on this movement!  The French Market, on Gay Street in Downtown Knoxville, was the first restaurant to sign up to allow dogs on their patio, and as a way to thank them, we decided to bundle up and take our dogs out to lunch!  Despite the cold weather, there was about 6 dogs there with their owners, enjoying Downtown Knoxville at lunch time.  I highly recommend the crepes – they are wonderful!  And my Ellie Mae loved the sampler platter of cheese and meats for the dogs!  The media also came out to see “Who let the dogs out”!  Sorry, I couldn’t resist!!  =) Here are some photos from the day:

The French Market’s permit to allow dogs in outdoor serving areas posted proudly in their front window!

Here’s my Ellie Mae in her winter coat wondering why we can’t go inside?!?!

Beau is feeling right at home on these downtown streets!  Word on the street is that he can’t wait for the new Downtown Dog Park to open!

Thanks to The French Market for going to the dogs!  If you are a restaurant owner in Knoxville and want to allow pets on your patio, you can apply here.

Snow Dogs in Knoxville Tennessee

It doesn’t snow very often in Knoxville, but when it does the town shuts down!  Originally from Chicago, we didn’t know what “snow days” off from school were.  We went to school no matter what.  The schools all around East Tennessee shut down even BEFORE it snowed!  They were calling for anywhere between 1 to 12 inches of snow.  I guess we got about 2-3 inches in Knoxville.  The dogs were able to get outside and enjoy the snow today.  And surprisingly, my girlie dog, Ellie Mae, who HATES to be cold, LOVED the snow!  She was running around like a crazy dog!

I purchased a new point-and-shoot camera so I didn’t have to carry my big camera around all the time.  I got a Canon Powershot SX 120 IS.   I decided to try it out on the dogs outside today since it was still snowing a bit.  I am pretty satisfied with it.  It is no where near as fast or crisp as my Canon 30D, but I can’t expect it to be.  Overall, I think it did a very good job!

Hops, standing on top of a snow mound showing how handsome he is:

Rowdee has a LARGE stick that he loves to play with and he managed to find it buried in the snow:

The snow was a bit slushy, but it made for great pawprints in the snow:

Ellie Mae realized that she could EAT the snow and had a blast doing it:

Here’s Hank – my in-law’s dog – looking cute:

I have a photo similar to this on the beach – love it!  If this doesn’t display the human-animal bond, I don’t know what does:

More pawprints in the snow!!!

Even Patch our cat was out enjoying the snow…..well, she was enjoying torturing Ellie Mae!

Overall it was a great snow dog day in Knoxville!  Late this evening Knoxville went on a Level 3/Critical Condition Snow Plan due to the frozen roads and numerous car accidents!  We are home safely cudding with the dogs, but if you have to go out, BE CAREFUL!

Oldies but Goodies….

I was going through some of my older photos from when I first got started in photography.  I was less organized then and they are all thrown on a hard drive by date.  Seems good, but I saved EVERYTHING!  Even photos that were blurry and out of focus!  At least now I delete those right away!  Still working on getting more organized as far as rating my photos and tagging them with keywords, which I need to do more of.  I also just upgraded to Pro Photo 3, so I wanted to try out the slideshow feature.  Here goes…. let me know what you think!

18 rolls of toilet paper and 3 dogs…..

We recently had a commercial photo shoot (details on the commercial shoot to be blogged about at a later date) involving 18 rolls of toilet paper and 3 dogs!  What an adventure!  I’m not sure who had more fun – us or the dogs?!?!  Hops was the first model and he wasn’t sure what to do, so he decided just to lay down in it….

We then decided to put a treat inside a roll of toilet paper.  That worked!!

Ellie Mae was next-boy was she crazy!  It took her a while to slow down, but when she finally did she really enjoyed the toilet paper.

Once she realized what was going on, she looked up at us as if saying “Ummm, is this ok?  Am I supposed to be doing this?”

Finally it was Rowdee’s turn!  He was patiently waiting in the other room, but I know he was wondering what in the world was happening on the other side of that door!  He found the hidden treats immediately and layed down to enjoy them.

We really had a great time with this shoot.  It was so much fun to think outside the box!  I challenge all of you to do something different than what you usually shoot.  Change it up a bit and you will be surprised how much enjoyment it will bring you!

Become a fan of Mountain Mutt Photography on Facebook and tell me what you did differently!  I look forward to hearing everyone’s different ideas!
